This love for football was seen in June 2016, when Brand Communications’ client, Royal Air Maroc, drew crowds of Africans to East London for the 2016 edition of African Nations Cup UK (ANCUK), a grassroots football tournament for Africans in the UK. Preliminary matches were held at the Hackney Marshes and the finals took place at the Terence Macmillan Stadium in Newham.

There was excitement in the field when Achraf El Hassani, General Manager of Royal Air Maroc UK and Ireland, announced Ghana as winners of the African Nations Cup UK 2016 and presented them with their well-deserved trophy. Ghana scored 1-0 against Uganda in the finals of the tournament.

Eric Fraikue, Chairman of Ghana Team UK and Vice-Chairman of ANCUK, was thrilled for his team and the progress that the event has made over the past nine years, “I am very proud and excited that my team were the worthy champions, and I thank everyone involved in making this project a wonderful success.”

Dennis Kirunda Mahanda, founder of ANCUK said, “This tournament is a great way to support African culture and community cohesion through football. It is our dream to showcase the talents of young people whilst bringing people from all corners of the UK diaspora together.”

About 3000 people attended ANCUK this year, including talent scouts and former professional football players.

Brand Communications supported the tournament through the use of various marketing materials, photography, social media and public relations. The in-house team included Zarina Banu, Anietie Isong, Louise Kehoe, Himangi Kanodia, Charlotte Love and Candice South.
